Where Land Meets the Sky
Metlab conducts research in a wide range of fields related to weather and climate. When people hear the word meteorology, they may imagine simply observing the sky. However, weather and wind are also strongly influenced by conditions on the ground. Japan, in particular, has many mountainous areas and is surrounded by the sea, so local weather is greatly affected by topography and the distribution of land and water. During a special research project held in Hakodate this summer, we investigated how topography influences weather through field observations and data analysis. In this exhibition, we will introduce the activities and findings of the project, focusing on the close relationship between weather and topography.
