Fieldwork Harvest Festival: Tsujido, Iizuka, Ukujima
The Ryo Shimizu lab, established in 2024, has been conducting fieldwork in Tsujido, Fujisawa City. In 2025, the group focuses on the Suwa Shrine Annual Festival, known for its doll floats designated as tangible folk cultural properties by Fujisawa City. While participating in the festival music rehearsals, the group will explore the local social relationships and structures condensed within the festival's temporal and spatial context to reflect on the region. Additionally, we will share experiences from fieldwork conducted in Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Uku Island, Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, as part of a summer retreat (special research project), highlighting the appeal and challenges rooted in the daily lives of local cities and islands.
