People admitted to hospitals and nursing homes do not consume all of their meals, so it is important to understand their dietary intake. Dietary intake is measured subjectively and calculated as a percentage (in blocks of 10 percent), but the person who serves the food may be different from the person who clears it away. In such cases, the amount eaten is estimated before serving the food, and the percentage is visually estimated when clearing away. To solve this problem, we built a dietary intake status recognition system that uses machine learning to analyze pre-meal images, menu information, and nutritional information. Then, we developed a system that automatically recognizes dietary intake and nutrients by taking photos after eating.
