The Microbial Genomics and Environmental Bioinformatics Research Group of the Advanced Biosciences seminar employs computational and data analysis techniques to study the evolution, function, and interactions of various genetic elements to advance scientific knowledge and contribute to the limited understanding of life itself. Students belonging to this group conduct research on urban microbiomes, mobile genetic elements (including plasmids and viruses), genes associated with plastic and pesticide degradation, and synaptic proteins to investigate implications on antimicrobial resistance and environmental sustainability, emerging pathogens in companion animals, and the functional sophistication of cognitive abilities and neural diseases respectively.
