The Institute for Advanced Biosciences at Keio University (IAB), established in 2001, is one of Keio's town campuses. Based on world-class basic research, nine venture companies have been spun out from the IAB so far, including Human Metabolome Technologies, which conducts contract metabolome analysis and biomarker commercialisation, and Spiber, which is one of the few unicorn companies in Japan to commercialise artificial spider silk.
